The Harrisonburg/Shenandoah Valley KOA in Broadway (about 15 miles north of Harrisonburg) typically adds themed activities to the July 4th weekend. Past programming has included tie-dye, hayrides, ice cream socials, and other family-friendly campground activities.
One notable feature: the campground does not host fireworks, making it a quieter, pet-friendly option for guests who want festive holiday fun without the noise and crowd of a fireworks event.

Endless Caverns in New Market (about a 25-minute drive from Harrisonburg) can make for a worthwhile day trip during the Fourth of July weekend. In past years, holiday weekend programming has included a fishing derby, kids’ crafts, corn-hole, food trucks, flashlight cave tours, and live entertainment.
Even without special programming, the cavern tours themselves are a unique way to spend a hot summer day. The underground temperature stays around 56°F year-round.
